Blonde Bombshell Finds True Love
Wed 7th to Wed 14th June 2017

ClareClare was captured by the love of Christ, and responded in a way that shocked her family and the religious authorities of the day. She was a friend of St Francis, and one of his most faithful followers. Yet they lived out their vocations in differing ways: Francis and his Friars wandering the countryside; Clare and her Sisters in monastic seclusion. Francis has been likened to a swift flowing river; Clare to a deep well.
Clare was a formidable woman, opposing even the Pope in her determination to be faithful to the Gospel and Francis. She was ahead of her time, and her influence spread well beyond her small monastery. Often seen in the shadow of Francis, she's now recognised as an influential person in her own right. Her name, Chiara, means 'light', and she enlightened many.
And yes, she was blond!

We'll look at Clare's life and teachings, and visit the main places of her life. Each day there'll be Morning Prayer with a short talk, and Evening Prayer with shared reflection on our day. On three days we'll visit the main Franciscan sites including Assisi and La Verna. Other days we'll start with a longer talk, then have time for relaxation and reflection.

Canon Valerie Rampton is a 'Retired' Priest in Lincolnshire. She gives Quiet Days and Spiritual Direction. She's a geographer who loves exploring places. Being a wife, mother and grandmother has deepened her experience of life and of God's love. (valerie.rampton@waitrose.com +44 (0) 1636 626665)

God on the Brain - Developing Spiritual Intelligence
Wed 21st to Wed 28th June 2017

God on the Brain

Traditionally, intelligence has been measured purely on the basis of a person’s intellectual skills, measured in an IQ score, but now we recognize a host of different kinds of intelligence, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. And many see spiritual intelligence (SQ) as the central and most fundamental of the intelligences because it becomes a compass and source of guidance to all the rest.

But what is spiritual intelligence?
How can it be measured?
More importantly, how can it be grown?
And where does it fit into a
Christian understanding of spirituality?

As well as exploring these questions, a main focus of this retreat will be on developing practices that can help to grow spiritual intelligence.

Dave Tomlinson is the vicar of a thriving parish in North London, an experienced Enneagram teacher, spiritual director and author, and a popular speaker and retreat leader.

All meals in Casa Roberto are included in the cost of £660 per person.  All transport during the retreat is provided by people carrier.  Additional costs include flights to and from Perugia airport. Please also allow 200 Euros for light lunches, evening meals out and incidental expenses.

A Franciscan Pilgrimage

Monday 4th to Friday 8th September 2017

Living with integrityThis pilgrimage will visit and spend time in the locations in Umbria that are now Franciscan sanctuaries: they form both a background and commentary on the conversion, ministry and spiritual legacy of St Francis. These sanctuaries contain some of the most profound works of art in the western Christian tradition, some witness to the simplicity of holiness, others are set in the most spectacular and dramatic landscapes. Montecastelli is less than an hour’s drive from all these holy places, allowing the maximum time to engage with the ethos unique to each place.

The provisional programme is: Monday morning arrive Perugia airport. Lunch, rest, introductory meeting and evening prayer, early evening visit to Montone (a small medieval hill top settlement) followed by supper at Casa Roberto.
Tuesday morning (after Morning Prayer) visits to San Damiano and the Carceri: lunch in Santa Maria del Angeli, followed by visits to Portiuncula and Rivotorto. On return to Casa Roberto, rest and free time, supper followed by night prayer and reflection on the past day.
Wednesday morning (after Morning Prayer) an all day visit to Assisi: with group visits to the Basilica and Santa Chiara, followed by free time to explore.  Evening as Tuesday.
Thursday: Visit to La Verna, lunch at La Verna, visit to Citta di Castello on return journey. On return, rest, followed by evening prayer and meal in a local ristorante.  Friday: Leave for Perugia airport.

Andrew Hawes has been an Anglican Priest since 1981 and since 1989 has been based in Edenham, Lincolnshire, at a small retreat and conference centre www.edenhamregionalhouse.org . He and his wife Sian have been visiting Assisi regularly since 1978 and have a great love for all things Italian.

All meals in Casa Roberto are included in the cost of £500 per person.  All transport during the retreat is provided by people carrier.  Additional costs include flights to and from Perugia airport.  Please also allow 150-200 Euros for light lunches, an evening meal out and incidental expenses.

The Questions Jesus Asks
Wed 13th to Wed 20th September 2017

Alsion ChristianWhat is the deepest question you have?  Jesus asked questions of his disciples and the people he met all the time and they always seemed to be exactly the right ones for the right person at the right time.  But Jesus’ questions are for us, too.  During this retreat we will explore some of the questions Jesus asked using various approaches and we will see how he speaks directly to us today helping us engage with some of our most profound desires.

Revd Canon Alison Christian was a priest in three diverse London parishes before becoming Warden of Launde Abbey, one of the UK’s leading retreat houses, in 2012.  There she has led numerous retreats, Quiet Days and teaching days on various aspects of prayer and spirituality.  Alison is a spiritual director with over 22 years’ experience and co-created and led the Spiritual Direction Course for the dioceses of Leicester and Peterborough.  Alison describes herself as having a “passion for prayer.”  She is married to Richard, and they have two adult sons.

All meals in Casa Roberto are included in the cost of £660 per person.  All transport during the retreat is provided by people-carrier.  Additional costs include flights to and from Perugia airport. Please also allow 200 Euros for light lunches, evening meals out and towards the costs of the people-carrier.
